Rescues!
MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue is asked daily to help homeless, sick, injured (or all of the above) birds. We do our best to help as many as we can. Here are just a few of our recent rescues.
Pretzel & Sugar Pea arrived at SFACC on 8/6 as stray baby king pigeons. They were doing OK for awhile but became sick with respiratory infections, and with the shelter already overflowing with healthy but unadopted king pigeons, they were facing euthanasia on 8/29 when we picked them up and took them into foster care. They have recovered and are available for adoption.
Gus & Petal were also sick at SFACC on 8/29 and facing euthanasia (Gus because of respiratory infection and Petal with suspected PMV). They are in MickaCoo's foster care and making progress.
Fergie is a young adult king pigeon that arrived wounded at SJACS on 9/6 and was taken into MickaCoo's foster care the next day. She has a serious infection from her wounds and required surgery to treat them. We are hopeful that she will survive. (Her new friend Norman the dove is helping to cheer her up.) Donations are needed to help pay for her vet care!
Dahlia, a Birmingham Roller, was found emaciated, weak and unable to fly on 8/7. MickaCoo's existing foster homes were full but her rescuer, a Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue volunteer (our sister rescue- for parrots) is caring for her until she is strong enough to join a foster aviary.
Faye, an adult homer, wound up as a stray at SFACC on 7/19. They were concerned about her appearance (bald) but it appears to be the result of a previous injury (likely scalped as a baby by non-parental adult birds). It is very challenging for shelters to find homes for all the perfect pigeons in their care- let alone those disfigured in some way. Faye was taken into MickaCoo's foster care on 8/29 and we will care for her until the right home can be found. She is very happy to be out of the small shelter cage and in a foster aviary.
MickaCoo was sent this haunting picture on 8/31 and was asked to help this fancy but very frightened stray pigeon at the Tri-City Shelter in Fremont. She has since been taken into foster care, named Chanel and is doing better every day.
MickaCoo was also contacted on 8/31 about this "bronze" pigeon at SJACS. He was taken into MickaCoo's foster care on 9/4 and is recovering from a suspected impact injury. He has been named Frightful (after the falcon whom he resembles).
This tame and very sweet dove, named Sasha by his/her rescuer, was waiting patiently in a small cage for two months at a wildlife rescue until on 9/9, a Mickaboo volunteer couldn't stand it any more and brought the dove home to foster herself until MickaCoo can find an adopter.
Please help MickaCoo to help the birds that need us. Adopt. Foster. Volunteer. Donate. Thank you!
