Ernesto
On 11/10/10, I received this message from a fellow Mickaboo volunteer-
I just got a request to intake a dove whose owner has died in the Sac
area. Apparently a 10-year "pet", misshapen beak, eats well.
area. Apparently a 10-year "pet", misshapen beak, eats well.
MickaCoo (the pigeon & dove rescue division of Mickaboo) took the dove in. His name is Ernesto and he is an incredibly charming gentleman dove.
We got a wonderful and ideal adopter for him who then, to her and our surprise, was hassled by her Homeowner's Association about adopting a dove (!) and had to return him back to MickaCoo.
We tried adding him to our foster dove aviary and at first it seemed like he would do great. He was happy and eager to meet the lady doves.

But, within a couple of days, his foster mom could see that he wasn't fitting in and wasn't thriving. He's been an indoor pet bird for 10 years and while game to try, he wasn't quite ready for dove-only society.
On 12/22, I brought him home to stay at my house and set up his nice big cage so that he would feel at home. Despite going through so many inexplicable changes over the past month, he is an incredibly good sport and cheerfully supervised my computer work from the top of my monitor.

Now Ernesto has once again been adopted. He is a cherished pet and will bring his new person a lot of joy.

MickaCoo currently has 77 pigeons and doves available for adoption. Please check out our Available Birds.
