Billie
Billie is a king pigeon hen that was kept in an SF backyard and then surrendered by her owner on 4/1 to the ACC (reason unknown). She came in with another bird, originally named Allejandro (which I changed to Alejandra when I learned she was a hen) as a bonded pair. They definitely were good company to each other while in the shelter but, as soon as they met the birds in my foster flock, they started courting cocks. Billie first courted with Sparks but, on 4/10 when George arrived, she and George became a couple. They were the first to lay eggs in the new aviary and are currently sitting on wooden ones (pij birth control). They chose the most protected nest cubby, sacrificing any kind of view in preference of seclusion, I guess. She's a slenderly built, medium size bird with completely pale eye rings. Billie is available for adoption with her mate, George.
7/12/08 Finally caught Billie & George spending time as a couple. They're a mated pair (and have been ever since George showed up on April 10th) but you never see them together- one is always on the nest. This week, though, they are in that honeymoon phase that the pij take after they quit a nest (of wooden eggs). I'll HATE taking their real eggs away from them in a few days but there are just too many homeless birds out there to allow more breeding. As Mickaboo says, Don't buy, don't breed, adopt!
12/4/08 Update
Billie and her mate George have been adopted by a wonderful family and now live (happily ever after) with their friends Opal & Rome, Willow & Blue and three chickens in a big, gorgeous aviary.
