Dorsey
Dorsey is a young pigeon, a squeaker, only about 5 weeks old. He's too young to determine gender but I have to pick a pronoun so, for now, he's a he. Dorsey was picked up as a stray on 7/27 at Mount Vernon and Tara in SF. I brought him home from SFACC as a foster on 8/5. He handled the hazing and attention from the other pij in the loft well. He was intimidated (as he should be) but not panicked and they didn't pick on him. He found a good spot perched on the water dish poop guard and then spent some time on the swinging perch.

11/2/09 UPDATE:
The lives of four beautiful young king pigeons- Dorsey, Sparkle, Simon and Will, have been saved by an adopter in Indiana who patiently endured MickaCoo's long-distance approval process and then paid the adoption fee and cost to express ship them from SF to her home in Vincennes, IN.
When I bring birds like these home from the shelter, I can only do it because of adopters like Hilary who are willing to choose adoption over breeding, rescue over buying. Hilary could have gotten lots more or fancier pigeons for the $100 she spent in these tough times but instead she chose to honor the lives of four young king pigeons who escaped the butcher, survived the streets and then beat the shelter odds stacked for euthanasia and against them.
Here are pictures of them on their way. I'll add some of them in their new home soon.
He's more relaxed today and settling in. Poops look good and he's in good shape.

Dorsey is available for adoption.
