Frankie
I was visiting the Humane Education campers, staff and their foster pigeons at the SF SPCA on Monday and braved going next door to the SFACC to see how many birds they might have in need of rescue. I was very happy to see lots of volunteers but only one pigeon- baby Frankie.
Baby pigeon Frankie, barely 4 weeks old, had been found the week before wandering around helplessly at Green and Stockton (Washington Square Park) in the North Beach district of San Francisco. This little one was very lucky and got to SFACC before the many hawks, ravens, gulls, dogs and cruel people got to her. Then she was lucky to not be too sick. She was a little under the weather and had worms but was hanging in there when I got her released to MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue for foster care.
Frankie's doing well, gaining weight and is now spending time outside each day in the aviary.
She (?) is a homer we think. Frankie is very petite though without the definitive homer face. Frankie is enjoying bathing and lounging around with her new friend Neo.
Cute as she is, she seems to prefer birds to people and will probably be happiest in an aviary setting.
