Pinto Pony Pij (name TBD)
This strikingly marked pij was found as a stray on 3/2 at 12th & Otis in SF and lucky enough to get taken to SFACC. I included her picture on my 3/15 blog post titled "MickaCoo in Crisis (Still)" as one of the many pigeons that we are currently too full to help. Something about her spoke to one of our volunteer fosters who decided to make room for one more and, on 3/19, I had the pleasure of going and getting her released from the shelter. While there, I donated a 50 pound bag of pigeon feed (that was provided by another pigeon rescuer) and I also brought home a super skinny pigeon that was not feeling well at all (see Angel) and that, while I need her like I need a hole in the head, I couldn't see how to leave.
On 3/21, I'll be meeting Pinto Pony Pigeon's new foster mom in an IHOP parking lot halfway between our respective hometowns and she will have a home- at least foster, maybe forever.
She (as I now know based on the happy welcome all my pigeon cocks have given her) is a gorgeous, rich brown with hot purple iridescence. She has a little ruffle of upturned feathers along the back of her head and is missing her tail feathers (probably pulled out while being caught) and so has the silhouette of a fancy chicken- a short butt and long neck.
The flight feathers on one of her wings are clipped but that didn't stop her from winding up lost and at risk as a stray in downtown SF.
She's home-wrecking all through my coop and has turned gentleman Santino into a scandalous adulterer (his mate Charlie is sick and in the house) and I won't be sad to box her up and deliver her to the foster who saw her picture and said, "I need to help that pigeon".
