Big Man
I brought Big Man home from SF ACC to foster on 1/23/08. I don't have any details about how long he was at the shelter nor how he came to be there. Most of the time I can't tell the pigeon's gender until they've paired up with another and then, based on the gestures and courtship, I can. But Big Man came out of his transport box strutting and showing off as only a male pigeon can. He and Amber had a love-at-first-sight kind of thing. He was a big, macho pigeon and he worked very hard to find just the right nest spot for her and she let him. And it paid off. They had a deluxe basket on a hill in the corner of the pigeon room and Amber laid the first pigeon eggs I ever saw. They were beautiful and it broke my heart to take them away and replace them with fake eggs. It still does.
On 3/8, Big Man and Amber were adopted by Martha and Larry and now live in a beautiful, outdoor loft in Sutter Creek.
