Daisy & Magic
An already over-full Monday started out with an extra bang when I was contacted about a pair of doves, one missing a foot and the other unwilling to stand, that had been dumped overnight in front of the Berkeley Animal Care & Control shelter. Another unexpected situation had me headed out to see Dr. Speer in Oakley and so I picked these little ones up on the way. How can one be so cold and heartless as to dump a pair of doves?
I named the one-foot male dove Magic.
During his exam, Dr. Speer found that Magic's sternum was misshapen, probably from poor nutrition. The missing foot is an old injury and Magic manages well in spite of it.
I named the female dove Daisy. She's a little thinner and is favoring one leg. She's expected to feel better with time and TLC. They're a bonded couple.
Bringing these two home to foster puts me nine over my limit. But I'm thinking they might make nice friends for Lucia and Pierre so having them here with me is handy. Plus I've got some new fosters and adoptions in the works so will be getting my numbers down.
