MacKenzie
MacKenzie (so named because her face reminds me of Spuds MacKenzie's) was found as an injured stray near Elmhurst and Pinewood in San Jose on 10/5 and taken to the San Jose Animal Control Services shelter who in turn contacted MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue for help in finding her (?) a home. She was picked up by volunteer Cathy and I brought her home to short-term foster in my coop on Friday, 10/8.
She's an uncommon color- almond in an agate pattern and built long and sleek like a racing pij.
Then, a couple days later, I noticed that MacKenzie had a puffed up crop. I consulted my pigeon experts and was counseled that it may be an air sac problem or could actually be a breed trait (Pouters swallow air to inflate their crops).
I'm still not sure which it is but MacKenzie is definitely feisty and that is an indication of strength and well-being. She also stands very tall, as Pouters do, so maybe the crop is self-inflated. We'll be going to the vet on 10/19 to find out for sure.
Assuming MacKenzie gets the vet's blessing, s/he will be available for adoption. If you have any ideas about what sort of pigeon MacKenzie might be, or know anything about Pouters, please comment on this post or contact me at AdoptKings@gmail.com.
