Sparkle
Aaacch! Went in to SFACC today to borrow a kennel to give Winter more room in which to recuperate and TO ONLY TAKE PICTURES of the king pigeons but ended up bring all three home with me. Sparkle, so named because that is what popped in my head while looking at her, was found as a stray on 8/16 in Balboa Park. She's just a baby but in good shape and so she's out in the loft now with fellow baby Dorsey for age-appropriate company and all the other pij for watching and learning.
She was excited, it seemed to me, to discover the pigeons' bath tub and took a quick one while June Bug waitied impatiently on the sidelines.
Sparkle is available for adoption.
11/2/09 UPDATE:
The lives of four beautiful young king pigeons- Dorsey, Sparkle, Simon and Will, have been saved by an adopter in Indiana who patiently endured MickaCoo's long-distance approval process and then paid the adoption fee and cost to express ship them from SF to her home in Vincennes, IN.
When I bring birds like these home from the shelter, I can only do it because of adopters like Hilary who are willing to choose adoption over breeding, rescue over buying. Hilary could have gotten lots more or fancier pigeons for the $100 she spent in these tough times but instead she chose to honor the lives of four young king pigeons who escaped the butcher, survived the streets and then beat the shelter odds stacked for euthanasia and against them.
Here are pictures of them on their way. I'll add some of them in their new home soon.
