Elvis
I went to SFACC on 11/15 and picked up two king pigeons that had been found as strays and were waiting futilely for adoption. One was healthy and strong and I took him along with the two last-caught of the Our Lady of Peace pigeons to the Marin Humane Society which kindly takes in healthy pigeons when MickaCoo is over full. At MHS, pigeons live a top quality life as a flock in a large barn stall with an attached outdoor yard- as opposed to the small, lonely cages that they are kept in at city shelters.
Elvis has recovered and he and his friend Lupita have move outdoors to my backyard pigeon coop. They are available for adoption through MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue.
But the other one wasn't healthy and so I brought him home for indoor fostering, supportive care and medication (for canker in this case).
I named this young king pigeon Elvis. I wish I could take credit for that name but the truth is that despite having to hame literally hundreds of rescued king pigeons, I'd NEVER thought to name one Elvis. Last year, I met a nice cat rescuer who had found a stray baby king pigeon and she named him Elvis. When I heard that, I was like, oof! Why didn't I think of that?! Her Elvis turned out to be a hen and now lives very happily in a big, wonderful aviary (north of Grass Valley) built for rescued pigeons. I believe this Elvis is a cock and, even though he is way too young for it, I actually got him kissing his roommate, Lupita!
