Spirit

While at SFACC checking on their many king pigeons, I met this lively but congested bird, named Spirit by the owner that surrendered her to the shelter with only the information that "she had been found five months ago and he tried to take care of her". She was surrendered on 12/28 and if the respiratory infection she had didn't kill her, she would have been euthanized for lack of space the week of 1/4. But I was there, on behalf of MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue, on 1/3 and got her released as a rescue to the one open foster spot we had.

Spirit didn't know what all it would require to get her out of the pound and into recovery and a home, but she knew she wanted OUT OUT OUT.

Spirit beat the odds (most surrendered pets don't) and will now live happily ever after. She's got a nice pigeon friend, Little Jazzy, and a great foster mom, vet tech Loreli. More pictures and updates to come. Spirit is available for adoption.
