Jack
MickaCoo is rarely asked to rescue fantail pigeons (Jack is the fourth out of about 700 birds taken in to date). When I was asked to take this bird, whom I named Jack, I knew I had a foster volunteer with very fond childhood memories of a fantail and she had room so my plan was for Jack to go there.
I felt guilty though, every time he made me smile so I boxed him up and took him to his new foster home as I had said I would.
But I have to confess, I really started enjoying having Jack in my coop. His outrageous beauty was lovely to have around. He integrated fine into my flock of jacked up (and much beloved) birds like Gale and Comet and Ray Ray and I would have been happy to foster him.
I felt guilty though, every time he made me smile so I boxed him up and took him to his new foster home as I had said I would.
But funny things happened when Jack got to his new foster home. First, all the other birds were spooked by him. I'm not sure why. He acted like a regular pigeon and was very gentlemanly. My birds hadn't blinked when I introduced him to my coop but these pigeons fluttered away in alarm when he came their direction.
And, while Jack seemed to make himself at home while I was there, I later got word from his foster mom that he wasn't mingling and eventually, that she was so concerned about him that she brought him inside in case he was sick.
