Uma

Uma is another one of the sick eleven (see Nicky & Santino). Unfortunately, her illness appears to be more like that of the late Nicky than the recovered Santino. I brought her and another sick bird from the same group, Lark, home for care on 9/11.More info to be posted soon.

9/15 Update:

After steadily worsening, Uma died sometime early this morning. I don't know what she and Lark and Nicky had (I believe all three succumbed to the same illness) but it's a bad one and involved both the respiratory and GI systems. I learned a lot from Uma, stuff I should have known but somehow didn't. Like: I'm not qualified to provide 'hospice care' as I have neither the skills nor the resources to give comfort to a dying pigeon. All I can do is provide a warm, safe spot to recover or to die but I won't be calling it 'hospice' anymore.
