The Georgia 8
Despite a lot of King Care-A-Van adoptions, the king pigeons had been piling up for months at SF ACC and local adopters' plans had to be pushed back for family emergencies and such. If it wasn't for Rodney, a pigeon hobbyist in Georgia and the support of several generous donors, all Pigeon Talk members, these birds would have had no place to go. And their time was up. Shelter volunteers had named them: Stryker, Mario, Trevor, Cupcake, Marshmallow & Sora. I brought them home from the shelter to stay at my place the night before and they were SO happy to be able to move around and socialize.
These six were joined by Jack & Jill (who had been fostering at Andy's Pet Shop) and, on Monday, April 20th, they were boxed up and shipped to Royston, GA.
They arrived the next morning and their adopter drove 30 miles to the "city" post office so the pigeons wouldn't have to spend another day in the shipping box while waiting to be delivered. They all arrived safe and sound and are doing great. They are out of shelter cages and have room to fly from one perch to another, bathe, court and just, finally, be birds. Rodney's working on renovating the pigeon barn so they'll be getting an even fancier home with almost triple the space. Hooray for the Georgia 8!
