Pepe
Mickaboo and MickaCoo participated in an Adoption Fair on 5/15 at the Humane Society of Silicon Valley in Milpitas.
While there, shelter staff introduced me to an injured racing pigeon they had taken in the night before. He had head trauma and a very swollen eye that I was afraid he might lose if he didn't get immediate avian vet care.
Mickaboo (and Coo!) volunteer Monica and her husband Juan were kind enough to pack up the doves and crates they brought and rush the young bird (hatched in 2010) to For the Birds in Cupertino who kindly agreed to accept him even though he would arrive after closing.
Monica named him Pepe in honor of her first bird and he's doing better. The swelling is going down but so far, he still cannot see out of his left eye.
After he was released from vet care, HSSV, which doesn't serve birds, has been kind enough to take him back in as a foster (to save us boarding fees) because MickaCoo doesn't have any foster spots available. Yet- I haven't given up hope!
Pepe's owner was contacted and initially expressed interest in having him back "if he was OK" but since has not returned my phone calls.
If you can help by providing a quiet place for Pepe to recover (in the SF Bay Area), please contact me at AdoptKings@gmail.com. And/or, if you can help with Pepe's vet bill ($501), please click here to make a tax-deductible donation. Thank you!
