Picasso
Picasso is one of three baby king pigeons picked up by SF Animal Control Officers on Saturday 10/2 (probably at the same time as MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue's first fundraiser and open house). The three squeakers had been dumped ("set free") at Golden Gate Park and had tried to hide in the reeds at the lake, getting soaked. One died before it even made it to the shelter.
On 10/8, fellow MickaCoo volunteer and pigeon rescuer Cheryl and I pulled Picasso (formerly known as "Artic") and his likely-sibling Lollipop and two other shelter pigeons to come into foster care.
Aside from being paint splattered (what is wrong with people?), Picasso got his name by being so expressive and having a bit of a high-strung temperment. He squeaks and squeaks. If you look at him, he squeaks! If you move, he squeaks! If he moves, he squeaks!
While they were in pretty good shape considering, the sibling, Lollipop had runny nares and I nursed them in the house on heat for the first few days and gave them a course of Doxycycline-Tyson .
Picasso was feeling feisty and energetic pretty quick and rejoiced at being out of a small, lonely, scary cage and out in the fresh air and sunshine, reunited with his sister (?) Lollipop. He celebrated with his wings.
As both recovered, they spent time outside until, finally they moved out to the coop full time.
Picasso can't preen or bathe away the green paint but he will molt out those feathers and grow in nice, new paint-free ones.
He's a good bird. Feisty and full of himself. He knows he's tough. He's a survivor. Picasso is available for adoption through www.MickaCoo.org. Contact me at AdoptKings@gmail for info.
