Today's Ten Intakes
MickaCoo took in 10 homeless birds today. Three from a San Leandro surrenderer, six from Berkeley Animal Care Services and one from SF Animal Care & Control.
Birds number 1, 2 & 3 are adult "oops baby" doves surrendered by a family that didn't realize how prolific they could be. They're going to start using fake eggs now.

Bird number 10 was an unexpected add on. I'd been told by an SFACC volunteer & MickaCoo supporter about "Big Daddy" being at the shelter yesterday but his wing-fu gave her the impression he was healthy and, since he had only arrived the day before, I didn't expect to be helping this bird for a couple of weeks at least. But I was in the neighborhood (at the SPCA) and did a welfare check and found that Big Daddy had used up all is strength. He was wobbly on his feet and, at 405 grams only weighs about two thirds of the 650 or more that he should. He's too weak to eat and so I brought him home for supportive foster care. I think I'm going to change his name to Pop.

Bird number 4 is a dove that was rescued when a Berkeley resident passed away and his caretaker opened up the small aviary that she was living in. Neighbors called Berkeley Animal Care Services to rescue the birds and two dogs also with no place to go.
Birds number 5 & 6 are two of the five pigeons that were rescued with the Berkeley dove. They seemed to be a couple and are now fostered together at the Wulf Aviary.
Birds number 7, 8 & 9 are also pigeons rescued from the deceased Berkeley resident's opened aviary. They are now fostered along with three king pigeons at the SF SPCA in their Humane Education Coop.
The SF SPCA foster pigeons won the hearts of 20 new supporters today.

Here he (?) is at my house.
And here are the four new doves which have already made friends and will be going from my house to Filoli's foster aviary tomorrow.
It will take a little while but all these birds (including Pop when he recovers) will be entered into the database and show as available for adoption at www.MickaCoo.org. If you're interested in adopting, please complete our online application. If you'd like to donate in support of the rescue of these birds, please visit our DONATE page for your options. Please specify that your donation is in support of "Pigeons & Doves". Thank you!
