Pierre UPDATE 5/6/10
Pierre and his faithful friend Piper are back home from Medical Center for Birds in Oakley, thanks to an epic trip there and back in rush hour traffic by friend and fellow MickaCoo volunteer Cheryl yesterday.
Dr. Speer has Pierre's feet taped to a tongue depressor in something he calls a "surfboard splint" (but which is really more a snowboard splint) for a time to give his femur a chance to fully heal and for the muscles and tendons to adjust. He'll reasses in a week or two to decide if the tibia taursus does require a surgical fix.
Pierre can sit, stand and hop/fly some. He's eating and managing but I'm sure he's wondering why we are being so mean to him- breaking his leg, contorting it into all kinds of new postitions, taping his feet to stuff... I suggested that Dr. Speer splint Piper's feet too so that Pierre didn't feel so bad but apparently Dr. S took a vow or something and isn't supposed to do stuff like that. (I'm just guessing here!)

Pierre is being very brave and as always, is a very good sport. I'm glad to have them home where I can roll their cage outdoors for fresh air and sunshine (or clouds) and also give them out-of-cage time indoors. Plus, as nice as everybody is at Medical Center for Birds, I think they're glad to be out of the doctor's office. You never know what's going to happen when you're there!
Thank you for all your support and concern on behalf of Pierre. He'll be SO happy when he can WALK!!! And, if you've got extra money lying around with nothing to spend it on, click here to donate towards Pierre's vet bill.
