Pierre UPDATE 5/1/10
I took Pierre (and Piper) back to Dr. Speer at the Medical Center for Birds. Dr. Speer believes that the femoral fracture site has healed but that the "valgus rotational deformity of the tibiotarsus" that he had hoped could be corrected by medially over-rotating the femur may in fact require surgery as well. (Initially, Dr. Speer had expected to have to do both but, during surgery last week, thought that he could get Pierre's foot in position through femoral compensation.)
Pierre is sporting an impressive little white porcupine of pin feathers on his leg.
Pierre and Piper are staying at MCFB for a couple of days so that Dr. Speer can radiograph the fracture as well as try a snowboard-type rig and test the need for further surgery.
He is optimistic that little Pierre will still get the leg he needs.
