Pierre UPDATE Morning 4/22/10
Got this e-mail from Dr. Speer-
Hi, Elizabeth - last night, it looks like Pierre somehow managed to loosen his fixator at its upper femoral attachment, and the pins have both come out. There is more fresh bruising and swelling, and I think that the best approach at present time should be to probably remove the fixator and keep him in his hobbles to allow the surgically-induced fracture to heal on its own at a slower rate. Long story short - you are welcome to visit, but it may be best to wait another day or two, and then I think that he would be able to go home with you Friday or Saturday...
I knew this was a possibility but was hoping it wouldn't happen. Pierre's little bones are too small for threaded screws and this can happen with smooth pins.
Dr. Speer says that he is still bearing weight on it and that it is correctly positioned. He feels we'll get where we want to be with a splint and says not to worry. I'm going to visit him tomorrow morning.

Oh I do hope so... It sounds hopeful, if scary. Best thoughts to him and you.
