Pierre UPDATE 4/19/10
Pierre is a very lucky little dove! He has kind and generous friends not only in California but in Colorado, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Maine and even Belgium! Thanks to your donations, Pierre will be having his corrective surgery tomorrow, Tuesday April 20th, and if all goes well, should be home by Friday. We're still fund raising (to cover the other half) and you can click here and follow the directions to donate.

Here's a video from yesterday of him and Piper hanging out on their cage top.
Dr. Speer generously agreed to let Pierre's friend Piper stay with him while at the hospital.

Now that the surgery is about to happen, I'm both relieved and scared. I'm relieved and grateful that so many donated in support of Pierre. I'm scared for what he's about to go through. Pierre's femur will be broken and rotated and pinned into the proper position. He doesn't know that this is a happy thing- that afterwards he'll feel better and have more quality of life. All he's going to know is pain and fear and frustration as he struggles to learn to walk. Dr. Speer is a big believer in managing avian pain so Pierre will have help on that front.

Check back tomorrow for another update.
