MickaCoo in Crisis (Still)
MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue (a nonprofit, all-volunteer home-fostering rescue) is-- wait for it--- FULL with more than 50 lovely, sweet pigeons and doves in foster care. SFACC is full up with 8 king pigeons and they're running out of time. The Marin Humane Society is also full. A great adopter that was going to take 8 birds has had to postpone for a couple of months and so there is no relief in sight. I'm too overwhelmed and buried to answer a whole lot of questions right now unless you or someone you know is serious about adopting. (We cannot take any more fosters in until some birds are adopted.) And there's LOTS of information available at www.MickaCoo.org
I've been having to turn away pigeons from shelters (Hayward Animal Shelter, Peninsula Humane Society) and bless their hearts, they've placed a pigeon or two here and there but they can't keep up with the influx. There are lots of sanctuaries that I've been working on (The Randall Museum, Ardenwood Historic Farm, Animal Place Farm Animal Sanctuary, etc.) without success. If you know of a place that could have (or already has) an aviary, please talk with them about the plight of domestic pigeons and doves. You can see most of our available birds here (I have trouble keeping up with all the data-entry.)
Also- we need donations. We've incurred a number of vet bills with sick and injured birds lately including Bennie the dove, Mia the pigeon, Rio the pigeon, Charlie the pigeon, Piper the dove, Peter the pigeon and Pierre the dove (off the top of my head). You can click here to DONATE.

As of today, MickaCoo needs to place a moratorium on the intake of new pigeons and doves. If you learn of one that needs help, please do what you can to help them yourself and to link them up to Pigeon Talk at www.pigeons.biz/forums.
If you'd like to adopt a rescued pigeon or dove, please visit www.MickaCoo.org or contact the shelter directly.
Thank you for all that you do.
