All Star Roster
MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue is a very small group of volunteers trying to help all the unwanted domestic pigeons and doves in the SF Bay Area. I have a backyard coop with seven of my own adopted pigeons and room for about 10 fosters (though I'm currently well past that number). There are a few other foster volunteers who, all together, have room for about 10 fosters and Andy's (100% Rescue) Pet Shop (which is tragically going out of business) always makes room for a few of our pigeons or doves. The Marin Humane Society has also been very generous and provides space when we have birds in shelters that are facing euthanasia... they currently have a flock of eight gorgeous, all white pigeons, available for adoption as a group or individually.
And, while we've placed lots of birds in great homes this year (about 50 directly and helped with at least 25 more), we are full up and have lots of great birds available for adoption! These innocents need wonderful, forever homes.
Here's the All Star Roster of MickaCoo pigeons available for adoption in approximate order of arrival. To adopt, please contact me at AdoptKings@gmail.com.
Santino & Charlie Brown White Socks- a gorgeous, mated pair. Santino is a big, red & white check Carneau/King cross cock. Santino was rescued from SFACC as a sick squeaker in 8/08, is tame, has been MickaCoo's demo bird at many an event and, while very hale and hearty, is a gentleman in the loft. His mate Charlie is an unreleasable feral blue bar hen that I tried and tried to not take in (and later to release) and she has sweetly defeated me at every step. Both are great flyers and very smart (they gave me my only oops babies in over two years). They would do best in a big aviary setting where they can fly and be their beautiful selves.
Kizzie & Millie- another gorgeous mated pair. Kizzie is a big (800+ grams), all white king, also tame (but only when he wants to be) who was rescued from SFACC as a sick squeaker 2/09 and who has also served as a MickaCoo demo pij at adoption fairs, (wearing pants against his better judgement). While big and strong, he is polite in a loft and gets along well with others. His mate, Millie, is a king hen all white with just a few dark grey feathers at the base of her tail. She was rescued from SFACC as an adult. She is quite expert in wing fu and you can expect to be soundly beaten about the head when swapping her beautiful real eggs for the evil fakes. They are a solid couple and are in search of a great forever home.
Coco & Ginger- the oops kids! Son and daughter of Santino and Charlie and now husband and wife (double oops!). These two are beautifully marked (variations of red bar, blending their dad's colors with their mom's pattern) and come with the world's best baby pigeon photo collection. Despite being hatched in my loft (4/09) and growing up with me, they are not tame at all and are birds' birds. They would do best in an aviary with space to fly some.
