April 2009 Rescue Updates
Lots going on, so much I can't really keep up with it all!
Lots of good stuff, too- Mickaboo Volunteer Super Star Katie has been helping MickaCoo tons by visiting three different adopters (throughout the entire Bay Area) and taking lots of gorgeous pictures (and coordinating all the documentation, etc. etc.) for the Pet Food Express "My Mutts" poster program. Here are just two of them, coming soon to a Pet Food Express store near you! Each poster will be displayed at a different store in an effort to help get the word out about homeless king pigeons. Post a comment if you see one.
And the Great King Care-A-Van of Spring 2009 has been a HUGE success in getting at-risk kings into wonderful, forever homes. Check out the stories of Journey, Tony & Doll, Gatsby, Dolce & Mac and many more here. The next phase starts this Monday with seven kings being shipped to their new home in Georgia.
The three sick squeakers that I brought home from SF ACC on 3/16 have fully recovered and are now in my loft with the "big birds". They were generously fostered by Mickaboo Volunteer Super Star Martha until they relapsed and came back to the kitchen counter hospital. On Saturday, they go to their forever home in Camarillo. They'll be joining Dolce & Mac and Charms & Bell and all the other lucky adoptees of MickaCoo Volunteer Super Star, Diane.

I recaught a pigeon that I call Black Satin from my neighborhood ferals and brought him in for further rehab of the remaining deformed toes (a result of becoming entangled in string) of his right foot. The other ferals that I've helped this way have done well. I quit prematurely with Black Satin, though, when I released him the first time. His toe was straight but not always and, without the shoe, it returned to its curled under and dysfunctional state. Hopefully, after a couple more weeks with the shoe, he'll be released with a truly healed foot this time.
I've snuck in some fun time with my pet friends... rescued feral pet pigeon, Bean, supervises my green-cheek conure Tookie's bath time and Kizzie and my mom's cat Uno and my dog Monkey all took a nap on the sunny back porch couch.
And I was interviewed by SF Chronicle Reporter Steve Rubenstein! He's doing a story about me and the pigeons and MickaCoo! Scary (but exciting)!
And, as always, we need donations to pay for the veterinary care that birds like Izzy and Kizzie and Peggy and Wendell require. If everybody who read this donated $5, we'd be THRILLED (and solvent). Please click here and scroll down to make a donation. Please include the word "pigeon" so that we know the donation is intended for MickaCoo. Thank you!
