On March 27th, I post an article titled "Salary Worthy?" and included a 7-question survey at the end. (Please complete it if you haven't already.) Below is the results as of noon today. I'll repost if more survey response come in and I'm working on providing a link to the hard-to-read text files soon.
Thank you for making time to read my post and to complete the survey and for all your thoughtful input. I truly appreciate all the support that you provide in so many ways.
Out of survey 66 respondents to the question "Do you think the work of MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue is valuable?
94% answered Yes! I am very glad that the Bay Area has an organized effort to help rescue pigeons and doves.
6% answered Somewhat. The fewer animals euthanized the better.

Out of survey 66 respondents to the question Do you think the effort of overseeing the foster care and rehoming of approximately 200+ pigeons and doves per year justifies a full-time staff position?
88% answered Yes. Volunteer efforts benefit from the support of a dedicated staff position.
1% answered No.Volunteer efforts alone can accomplish this.
11% answered Other (see comments below)
I don't believe that 200 justifies a full-time staff position, but since you have already done more than that already in 2011, you are probably looking at 500 or more in 2011, and that is enough to need someone full time.

I think that a full time staff position is justified, but a realistic salary such as $40,000 or more per year should require additional fund raising responsibilities, etc.

I feel that yes, volunteer efforts benefit from the support of dedicatethink it could also be staff. However, I wonder if it might be possible to identify a few other volunteers to take on the burdens rather than one person doing all the work (which doesn't sound fully sustainable paid or otherwise. You do a lot!)

Definitely justifies a paid position - not sure if it's full-time or part-time because I'm not aware of the level of work involved.

My real answer is yes. But part time paid might be more do-able than full time paid?

I would check with wildlife rescue - I know they are run on mostly volunteers - but somehow they bring in cash but I'm not sure from what sources - Maybe it's just how Mickacoo is organized that makes it too overwhelming/impossible for one person to do/spend so many hours doing. And unfortunately I'm not sure this full-time position would pay more than $25K per year - possibly less

I think if you want to make the move to a paid position you need to separate from Mickaboo. The only paid position I would even consider would be a paid fund raiser that produces results.

Out of 66 respondents to the question: Do you think that the addition of a paid staff position to MickaCoo would negatively impact the motivation of volunteers to get/stay
involved?
1.5% answered Yes. If one person is going to get paid, why should others volunteer?
80.5% answered No. There is a value to having both.
18% answered Other (see comments below)
Out of survey 66 respondents to the question Would you be as willing to donate in support of MickaCoo if the funds were being spent not only on vet care but to also staff a paid position?
74% answered Yes. I would still be comfortable donating to MickaCoo even if a portion of the funds went towards paying a salary.
5% answered No. I would not be as comfortable donating to MickaCoo if a portion of the funds went towards paying a salary.
21% answered Other (see comments below)Out of survey 62 respondents to the question Do you think that adding a paid staff position to direct MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue would be positive or negative?97% answered Positive
