Penny (formerly Cypress)

On January 19th, I learned of an unreturnable racing pigeon that had been taken in to SFACC on the 12th. When I asked what her band said, I learned she was 12 years old and a couple thousand miles away from home. A volunteer had named her Cypress.

MickaCoo was full and with a lot of birds on the waiting list ahead of Cypress but her plight really haunted me. Racing pigeons endure a lot and face a ton of risks. The fact that she was 12 years old and still in one piece was pretty amazing. It was like having a war veteran locked up. It seemed particularly unfair.

I decided to jump her ahead of the other birds on our waiting list and reached out to a pigeon lover who I trusted would give her a good life in the time she has left. (Some pigeons can live to 20 and older.)

Cypress did great in the car and even snacked on the way.

At a stop on the way, she met and charmed MickaCoo volunteer Jill with her beauty and grace.

Her adopter, Russ, has renamed her Penny.

And she has already found a mate in a fine, all white homer named Scooter. He's only 8 years old which makes Penny an official MickaCoogar.

Your help is needed to keep MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue aloft. Please adopt, get involved and/or donate.

Thank you!
